  • GPL Sound Cards

In the good old days, many had trouble with Creative & Windows XP in GPL, but several were successful in using Daniel K drivers.

Much has happened, XP is dead & so is the sound card with PCI, today used PCIe (PCI Express) but let's try in this thread, what is good & what is not.

I use Windows 10 x64 with a (perhaps record in long name) PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
no problems in GPL with Creative drivers

    ASUS Strix Soar

ASUS, a good old brand & when the old X-Fi time may be past...we tried a test with the brand new ASUS Strix Soar

As can be seen in the picture, this card requires a 6pin power connector, but then you also get a cheeky orange light (the old X-Fi had light without using 6pin)
Expectations were higher with this card - new & with extra power - it should be good.

Unfortunately, the problems began already with headset, strange clicking noises. We threw the card in another PC & this test on the B&O speakers...unfortunately a disappointment again. The sound (click) was still there, a strange delay in the bass (flac files)...a weird experience. We tried music on YouTube, again a slight delay of the sound.
We tested, course with latest drivers & countless options in that great ASUS Control Panel.
We were deeply disappointed, threw the card out & did not get tested GPL. Now we ask: ASUS, what went wrong

      Z

We continue our search for a good sound card & not least, a good Price. Somewhat surprisingly, we fell for this 3 year old cards from Creative

      ...& a good Beamforming Microphone.
Great treble & bass...without clicking noises. Again tested on B&O speakers + Edifier 730S

When you turn on the PC, you get almost a shock when the strong red light blistered up...incredibly nice if you have glass on the side of your tower. Well mix in our Antec 900 & Zalman Z11 Neo, blue & red.
If we say 6 stars is the top scorer (there are cards we have not tested & are more expensive) the good old X-Fi can get 4 & Z will get 5.
Conclusion: A great card for the Price ...& perfect in GPL.

        Sound BlasterX AE-5

If you have good speakers or headphones, you should of course have a good sound card & this will not disappoint.
Finally, Sound BlasterX AE-5 came to Denmark so we could try & it's not only good for the ears, especially if you have glasses in your case...lots of light
An image would be too boring, it should be seen
If you can't get light enough, later comes a 4xLED strips version. I think it was too much, but my son put them both in the other PC...WILD
If we here at GPL4U would recommend this Card: YES
